Biography
Chinese-American pianist Helen Jiang is a versatile performer and dedicated educator based in New York City. Helen began performing publicly at the age of four and won her first national competition at the age of six. Recipient of multiple awards and scholarships, she has performed extensively across Asia and North America. Rooted in classical piano, Helen is dedicated to exploring different genres of keyboard music and is an enthusiastic collaborator, with experience in both traditional classical settings and musical theatre, including various baroque ensembles, the NYU Broadway Orchestra, and the University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra. In 2025, Helen participated in NYU’s Tutte le Corde Festival, a collaboration between composers and pianists, premiering several new works. Her recent appearances include Steinway Hall and the North American premiere of Georg Friedrich Haas’s 11,000 Strings, a production recognized by The New York Times as one of the Best Classical Performances of 2025. Helen is also serving as staff pianist at New York University.
A committed educator, Helen is a Steinway & Sons Educational Partner. She is currently on faculty at Third Street Music School and runs her own private studio in Manhattan. Prior to this, she served as Adjunct Faculty in Piano Studies at New York University, teaching and designing individual lessons and keyboard skills classes. She received the NYU Outstanding Service and Leadership Award in 2025. Helen has also held faculty positions at the Illinois Summer Youth Music (ISYM) program and the Champaign School of Music.
Helen earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with highest honors. She completed her Master of Music in Piano Performance and an Advanced Certificate in Piano Pedagogy at NYU Steinhardt, under the tutelage of Georgian pianist Eteri Andjaparidze.
